

Wierzynek derives its name from a Krakow merchant, Mikolaj Wierzynek, who was invited in 1364 by Polish king Casimir the Great to prepare a feast for his grand daughter’s wedding.
Wierzynek is certainly Poland's oldest gastronomic institution in a city which rivals Prague in beauty and cultural heritage. Located in the heart of the old town in a renaissance townhouse, its best tables offer impregnable views on Krakow's main square and St-Mary's cathedral. You might even hear the clip-clop of fiacres and the call of the “Hejnał” rung live, every hour from the Cathedral's bell tower. Try the house specials such as crayfish bisque or duck "à la Wierzynek". The waiter might suggest that you order a full bottle of Potocki Wódka for the table...
